Former Indian cricket star Irfan Pathan has officially clarified his lack of involvement regarding the selection of Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir for the Kandahar Warriors squad in the Afghanistan Premier League. The news emerged following recent draft proceedings that raised questions about team composition and decision-making processes within the franchise.
Pathan took to social media to address the speculation directly, ensuring that fans and stakeholders understood his professional boundaries. He explicitly stated that he was not responsible for the roster choices made by the management team. According to “Irfan Pathan distances himself from Mohammad Amir’s selection in Kandahar Warriors squad at Afghanistan Premier League draft”, the former all-rounder felt it was necessary to clear the air regarding his role with the organization.
The inclusion of Mohammad Amir in the league has been a subject of significant discussion among cricket enthusiasts and analysts alike. By separating his personal reputation from the administrative decisions of the Kandahar Warriors, Pathan aims to maintain his professional integrity while the league continues its operations. The franchise has yet to release a detailed statement regarding the specific criteria used during the selection process for the international draft.
This development comes at a time when the Afghanistan Premier League is working to establish its footprint in the global cricketing calendar. The involvement of high-profile international players remains a key strategy for the league’s growth, though it occasionally leads to complex administrative narratives. Pathan, who has been active in various mentoring roles since his retirement, continues to focus on his commitments outside of team management duties.
As the tournament approaches, observers will be watching closely to see how the team performs on the field. The clarification provided by Pathan serves as a definitive end to the immediate rumors surrounding his influence over the drafting of specific players. For now, the focus remains on the upcoming matches and the competitive spirit of the participating squads as they prepare for the inaugural season of the competition.
