The Seattle Seahawks have officially confirmed that quarterback Sam Darnold will be unavailable for Sunday’s critical divisional matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. The team announced on Friday that they have “ruled out Sam Darnold with quad injury” after the signal-caller failed to participate in practice sessions throughout the week.
Darnold sustained the injury during recent team activities, prompting the coaching staff to exercise caution regarding his recovery timeline. Medical evaluations conducted over the last twenty-four hours determined that he is not yet fit to compete at the professional level required for a divisional showdown. The loss of the starting quarterback creates a significant challenge for the Seahawks as they prepare to face a formidable opponent in the NFC West standings.
With Darnold sidelined, the organization is expected to pivot toward their depth chart to manage the offensive responsibilities. Coaches have spent the week evaluating backup options to ensure the team remains competitive despite the sudden roster change. The decision to rule him out early provides clarity for the game plan, though it leaves the Seahawks with limited flexibility under center for the upcoming Sunday afternoon kickoff.
The team’s medical staff will continue to monitor the quad injury closely to determine if further recovery time is necessary beyond this weekend. Fans and analysts alike are focused on how the offense will adjust to this unexpected personnel shift against a high-pressure Arizona defense. The Seahawks remain committed to prioritizing player health as they navigate a demanding schedule in the second half of the regular season. Further updates regarding Darnold’s status for future weeks are expected following the conclusion of Sunday’s game. For now, the focus shifts entirely to the players currently active and prepared to take the field at Lumen Field.
