The New York Yankees recently punched their ticket to the ALDS with a dominant home win over the Boston Red Sox in Game 2 of the Wild Card round, sweeping that matchup in the process. The Yankees will now move on to face the Tampa Bay Rays in the next round, with a spot in the ALCS on the line.

Recently, Boston sports fans and Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy took to social media to let out some of his saltiness at his teamโ€™s bitter rivals earning a spot in the next round at his squadโ€™s expense.

โ€œThe Yankees celebrating a wild card series win with champagne just shows how far that franchise has fallen. Very embarrassing,โ€ he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Of course, champagne celebrations are standard practice for every team after winning a playoff series, as a community note eloquently pointed out.

Meanwhile, fans in the comment section were quick to roast Portnoy for the Karen moment.

โ€œThe yearly scheduled tweet lol. Mustโ€™ve scheduled this one last year cuz u knew itโ€™d happen again,โ€ wrote one fan.

โ€œDefinitely thereโ€™s a team that should be embarrassedโ€ฆbut it ainโ€™t the champagne drinkers,โ€ joked another.

The Red Sox surged up the standings in the second half of the 2026 season but now donโ€™t have anything to show for it, save for a loss to their division rivals, who were playing without their best player, Aaron Judge, at that.

The Yankees will certainly hope to have Judge back in the lineup by the time they hit the field against the Rays, who finished with the best record in the AL this year.

Game 1 of that matchup is set for Saturday evening at 6:30 pm ET from Tampa Bay.
