BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Sabres have signed defenseman Louis Crevier to a four-year contract extension with an average annual value of $4 million, the team announced Thursday.

Buffalo also called up defenseman Dennis Gilbert from the minors prior to Thursday night’s season opening game in Columbus.

Crevier, a 6-foot-8 defenseman entering his fourth NHL season, is projected to skate on the top blue-line pair with Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin at the start of the season, with defenseman Mattias Samuelsson, Olen Zellweger and Connor Timmins all battling injuries.

Acquired in the offseason trade that sent defenseman Bowen Byram to the Chicago Blackhawks, the 25-year-old Crevier has tallied 10 goals and 32 points with 224 hits and and 194 blocked shots in 134 NHL games. He was set to become a restricted free agent next year, and is now under contract through the 2030-31 season.

Gilbert, a Buffalo native who attended St. Joe’s, has appeared in 119 NHL games over the past seven seasons, including 25 with the Sabres in 2024-25. After being traded to the Ottawa Senators, the 29-year-old Gilbert returned home on a two-way contract this past offseason.
