Cristiano Ronaldo has been making headlines this week following his decision to leave the Portugal camp during the current international break.
Ronaldo was part of the squad that faced Norway in a UEFA Nations League game on Sunday, but he was left on the bench for the 2-1 win.
It then emerged on Wednesday that the former Real Madrid star had left the country’s camp, saying in a message ‘In time, I will tell all the Portuguese the truth about the reasons that motivated me to leave’.
The reaction to Ronaldo’s exit has since been mixed, while some old quotes from the player about his career in 2015 have started gaining attention on social media.
Cristiano Ronaldo said he wanted to finish his playing career ‘with dignity’ in 2015
ESPN UK posted a tweet on Thursday showing ‘Ronaldo talking about how he wanted to finish his playing career’.
In the quotes, Ronaldo said at the time: “In my mind, I want to finish at the top level. I want to finish with dignity. In a good club.
“It doesn’t mean that to go to the USA, Qatar or Dubai is not good but I don’t see myself there.”
Ronaldo last played in one of Europe’s top five leagues in 2022, leaving Manchester United following his second spell with the Premier League side.
He then joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr and remains on the Middle East team’s books to this day.
