If you don’t have a favorite baseball player, it’s time to embrace Munetaka Murakami.
The Chicago White Sox star has been a revelation this season, hitting 35 home runs in his first season in America. But he hasn’t shone only on the field; he’s also become quite the character off the field.
After the White Sox clinched a playoff berth, Murakami’s postgame interview went viral during the locker room celebration.
On Wednesday, the South Siders won their Wild Card series against the Houston Astros in a surprising 2-0 road sweep. After winning Game 1, 6-3, they won Game 2, 7-3. They will now face their fellow AL Central rivals, the Cleveland Guardians, in the ALDS.
With champagne bottles popping once again in the White Sox locker room, Munetaka Murakami was in the middle of it all. And this interview may be one of the best from a celebratory locker room we’ve ever seen.
Murakami was present with his translator, but didn’t really need him, as he explained that he was definitely drunk and going to be hungover.
“I’m drunk.”

In another interview, Murakami explained that he was most definitely drunk.

For what it’s worth, White Sox pitcher Mike Vasil had a viral interview of his own, saying that his team parties the hardest. We know, Mike. We know.

After seeing a video like this, it’s a wonder why other professional sports don’t allow their players to celebrate like crazy after winning a playoff series. Ok, maybe you don’t want your players repeatedly getting drunk and hungover with plenty more postseason games to come, but surely this is worth the entertainment factor, right?
At the very least, we should just have Munetaka Murakami in every celebratory locker room from here on out, not just in baseball, but in every sport. Surely he would be more fun to have around than Kash Patel, right?
