The Buffalo Bills secured a victory in their home opener, but the win came at a physical cost to their passing attack.
Veteran wide receiver DJ Moore exited the contest during the second quarter after sustaining a shoulder injury.
Addressing the medical update after the game, injury reports confirmed he “suffered an AC joint sprain,” according to ESPN.
The injury occurred while Buffalo was driving toward a 41-31 win over the Detroit Lions on Thursday night.
Despite leaving early, Moore helped establish Buffalo’s early momentum before heading to the locker room.
The veteran wideout is in his first season with Buffalo following an offseason trade from the Chicago Bears.
He made an impression during the season opener, catching five passes for 100 yards in a win against the Houston Texans.
Prior to joining Buffalo, the 29-year-old played five seasons with the Carolina Panthers before playing in Chicago.
Over his six-year career, Moore has recorded four seasons with at least 1,100 receiving yards.
His most productive campaign came in 2023 when he set career highs with 1,364 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
Buffalo now enters a mini bye week before hosting the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3.
The extra rest gives Moore 10 days to recuperate from the joint sprain before a decision on his availability.
Standing at 2-0, Buffalo could choose to exercise caution and rest Moore against Los Angeles.
Holding him out would ensure he is healthy for a division matchup against the New England Patriots in Week 4.
If Moore misses time, tight end Dalton Kincaid appears ready to absorb a larger role.
Kincaid led the offense against Detroit by catching seven passes for 95 yards and a touchdown.
