Four Green Bay police officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries early Saturday morning after a suspected drunk driver accelerated toward a crowd.
Officers with the Green Bay Police Department originally responded to a reported disturbance near a food truck at about 2:15 a.m. local time.
While officers attempted to take several people into custody at the scene, the vehicle suddenly drove directly toward bystanders and police.
The action prompted one officer to discharge a firearm at the vehicle.
Authorities confirmed no injuries resulted from the shooting.
The driver fled the scene, leading police on a brief pursuit.
Officers ended the pursuit by executing a PIT maneuver, a tactical move used by police to stop drivers.
Police took the driver into custody without incident on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
All four injured officers received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis provided details regarding the incident during a news conference.
“A couple of the officers’ injuries happened before the vehicle drove into the crowd, when they were attempting to take people into custody,” Davis said.
Chief Davis noted that officials do not know if the driver was connected to the food truck disturbance.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office will assist in investigating the officer-involved shooting.
