A Wisconsin mother of three has raised over $1.2 million for the parents of Lindsay Clancy following a mistrial in Massachusetts.
Brandee Mulligan, 42, established the fundraiser titled The Musgrove Family Fund without prior contact with Clancy’s parents, Michael and Paula Musgrove.
Explaining her decision to initiate the campaign, Mulligan said, “And as a mom, like your heart just goes out to Lindsay”.
Mulligan later named Clancy’s 70-year-old father, Michael Musgrove, as the sole beneficiary of all gathered funds.
Describing the heavy emotional toll on the family, Mulligan stated, “Her parents have uprooted their whole life for three and a half years”.
Defense attorney Kevin Reddington confirmed that the couple depleted their personal savings to cover their daughter’s legal bills.
Because Massachusetts currently lacks a Son of Sam law, money given to the father could legally assist Clancy’s ongoing defense.
Detailing their ongoing hardship, Mulligan noted, “They’ve been in hotels, they’ve depleted their savings, and they’re the ones that footed the bill for her legal things”.
The online drive has collected financial donations from more than 1,000 supporters worldwide.
Reflecting on maternal empathy across communities, Mulligan added, “Being a mom is hard, and it’s resonated with a lot of people all over the world”.
