Manchester United’s talks with Bruno Fernandes to extend his contract have reportedly stalled in recent weeks.
According to one reputable insider (as relayed by UtdDistrict), the Red Devils captain harbours concerns over the club’s ambition and promises.

Such worries were seemingly voiced by Lisandro Martinez on Tuesday night after he lashed out at the hierarchy, particularly Director of Football Jason Wilcox.

Lisandro Martinez’s explosive comments about the Man United hierarchy 👀:🗣️ “I expect more [investment], 100%. I expect more from our technical director [Jason Wilcox].I have to be honest: as players, we have to do more. Last season we did everything; we created the base to… pic.twitter.com/Qxw7FkRFRi
United’s lack of action in the market over the summer has already proven detrimental to the squad, with injuries at full-back and in the forward department forcing players to play out of position in order to fill in the gaps.
20-year-old centre-half Ayden Heaven, for example, was deployed at left-back for the clash against Atletico Madrid due to Luke Shaw, Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui all being sidelined.

As for Fernandes, his form has taken a substantial hit this season.
He has failed to register a goal or an assist in any of his last six appearances across all competitions, and fans have noted on numerous occasions that he is cutting a more frustrated figure than usual when United have been struggling.

During the defeat in Madrid this week, Samuel Luckhurst shared on Twitter/X: “That’s three times tonight that Fernandes has miscontrolled or lost the ball, and he’s either stopped or looked to moan at someone. His body language [is] just not right.”
Meanwhile, Michael Carrick recently told reporters that no player is guaranteed a starting role if they’re not deserving of one – even Fernandes.
“This is not on Bruno, this line, but nobody is guaranteed a place in the team,” he said in a press conference.
“Don’t take that as me talking on Bruno, just in general. There’s a level of performance, behaviour, [and] understanding we need as a squad to perform.
“All the boys know that. They understand that. They’ve got their own standards and want to be at their best. That’s pretty clear.”
It remains to be seen if United would look to part ways with their midfield talisman, 32, next year; his terms do expire in June 2027, but they can activate a 12-month extension in order to ensure they receive a fee from his departure.
