The Spurs’ three-guard starting lineup will make its debut on Wednesday night against the Suns in the next-to-last preseason game, coach Mitch Johnson said in his pre-game press conference.
The game gets underway at 7 p.m. at the Frost Bank Center.
Johnson wanted to use the three-guard look featuring De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper in the exhibition opener on Oct. 8, but a hip injury sidelined Fox for the first three games.
“I think they can dribble, pass, shoot, defend, make winning plays,” Johnson said of the three speedy guards. “They’re unselfish, they have good size. They’ll need to rebound. They’ll need to run the floor because we have a tremendous level of pace that we like to play with, which means one or none of them will have the ball, which means they need to sprint and sprint ahead. So if you wanted to have something that’s a focus point, it would be sprinting ahead of the basketball for sure and rebounding to finish up the defense possessions.”

The three guards will join Victor Wembanyama and Devin Vassell in the starting lineup against Phoenix.
Wembanyama, Vassell, Castle and Harper return to action after sitting out Monday night’s 119-109 loss at Utah for rest.
Julian Champagnie, Keldon Johnson and Luke Kornet will get Wednesday night’s game off to rest, the coach said.
