SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Next Stamina) – Roland Edward Bain, 40, of Sacramento, pleaded guilty today to sexual exploitation of a minor, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Eric Grant.
Between March 6, 2024, and May 5, 2024, Bain persuaded a minor victim to create and transmit sexually explicit photos and videos via smartphone.
Court documents indicate Bain engaged in sex acts with the victim and was aware the individual was under the age of 18.
Investigation records show Bain utilized smartphones to communicate with the victim and solicit the creation of sexually explicit material.
Officials stated that Bain also engaged in a pattern of activity involving prohibited sexual conduct with other minors during this period.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Sacramento Sheriff Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas Harman is lead prosecutor for the case.
The prosecution falls under Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative launched in May 2006 to coordinate federal, state, and local resources against child sexual exploitation.
U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley has scheduled sentencing for June 18, 2026.
Bain faces a mandatory minimum penalty of 15 years in prison and a maximum statutory penalty of 30 years, along with a $250,000 fine.
The final sentence will be determined by the court based on federal Sentencing Guidelines and applicable statutory factors.
