GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Minges Coliseum was the site for the premiere of the documentary “Still I Rise”, depicting former ECU baseball player Parker Byrd’s road to recovery.
A boating accident in 2022 resulted in Byrd losing his right leg, with the documentary showing some of his toughest moments adjusting to being an amputee.
“At the moment in the hospital room where basically I was pretty down, and my mom looked at me and said ‘why are you sad?’,” Byrd said. “I was like I will never play baseball again, and she said, ‘why do you say that?’ and I was like well, mom, there’s never been somebody to play with a prosthetic leg like this is almost impossible. And she simply said ‘well, there is always a first for everything’.”
The film highlights how Byrd embraced every part of his journey so he could return to Clark-LeClair Stadium and hear his name in the lineup.

“We wanted to give people a chance to see hope, redemption, and if you really want to do something bad enough,” Jeff Byrd, Parker’s father, said. “If you work hard enough, you can do it.”
