As part of Kentucky’s 35-34 win over No. 10 LSU in overtime on Oct. 10, Wildcats quarterback Kenny Minchey contributed a key play for his team to score just before halftime.

With three seconds until the break, Kentucky’s offense completed a tush push that got Minchey into the end zone. The Wildcats then took a 21-17 lead going into the second half.

Following the game, LSU head coach Lane Kiffin stated that he thought the play should have been blown dead before Minchey made it to the end zone, arguing that LSU stopped Minchey’s forward progress before teammates pushed him across the goal line.

Kiffin said when he asked the officiating crew about the call, they hold him they felt like they needed to keep the play going.

“[The line judge] said he’d be killed if he would have blown the whistle for the play being stopped,” Kiffin said, “even though it appeared to be stopped.”

The first-year LSU head coach saw as if the rules were bent in the moment, and that the refs need to call the game by the book.

“The rules are the rules,” Kiffin added. “If you see it that way, then see it that way. That’s my complaint with it. It all comes down to just blowing the whistle, so it is what it is.”

Kentucky improved to 5-1 and jumped in both major polls, with a trip to Oklahoma up next. LSU fell to 4-2 and dropped out of the top 10 in both polls.
