Matthew Stafford threw 54 passes at SoFi Stadium on Monday night and finished on the losing side of a 37-34 overtime game against the Buffalo Bills. He completed 40 of them for 383 yards and three touchdowns, and Puka Nacua caught 17 for 138 yards and a score, a career high in receptions.
Stafford also led the drive that tied the game with five seconds left in regulation, then moved the Rams into field goal range in overtime before Greg Rousseau blocked Harrison Mevis’ 48-yard attempt. Tyler Bass won it for Buffalo on the next possession.

Josh Allen got there on a lighter workload through the air. He threw only 19 passes, completing 12 for 210 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and ran 10 times for 121 yards and a touchdown. Two of those runs came on Buffalo’s final possession and carried the Bills to the Rams’ 27 for Bass’ kick.
“I mean, I’ve got an unbelievable amount of respect for Matthew. The way he plays the game, the way he’s always played it, he’s as tough as they come,” Allen said after the game when asked about Stafford. “I think if he’s not the greatest thrower of the football of all time, I don’t know who is. He spins it. He’s a competitor. He’s a guy that every quarterback should try to be like.”
#Bills QB Josh Allen talking about Matthew Stafford:
“If he’s not the greatest thrower of the football of all-time, I don’t know who is. … He’s a guy that every quarterback should strive to be like.”

Josh Allen’s praise of Matthew Stafford stand out
Allen won MVP in 2024, and Stafford won it in 2025. The two traded scores all night, with the lead changing hands six times and the score tied four times, and Allen came out of it praising the passer he had just beaten in the exact skill he leaned on least. Stafford’s 54 attempts nearly triple Allen’s 19, and Buffalo’s defense needed a blocked kick to survive that volume. Allen saw it from the sideline, and his answer reflected the pressure Stafford put on the Bills more than the final score did.

He also described his own night with less flattery. “Guys kept chipping away. I don’t think we threw it very well in the first half, but guys kept fighting,” Allen said.
Buffalo moved to 4-1, and the Rams fell to 2-3.
Allen had entered it 0-7 in overtime games across nine NFL seasons, and his first overtime win came against the QB he called the best pure thrower he knows of.
