Red Sox Should Have Interest in 29-Year-Old World Series MVP This Offseason originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
After a postseason in which the Boston Red Sox couldn’t get anything going offensively, it’s safe to say the offseason will be filled with adding players on that side of the ball.
The Red Sox certainly have needs on both sides of the ball, but adding offensive help should be at the top of the priority list.
The Red Sox can do that in multiple ways, including making a trade or two. The Red Sox have farm system players they could move who should interest other teams, with the hope of getting big-time talent in return. Among the potential options, Bleacher Report recently suggested that Jeremy Pena could be one of those guys.

Pena, a World Series MVP and one-time All-Star, won’t be a free agent until 2028.
“The moment Peña hired Scott Boras as his new agent in June 2025, the likelihood of a long-term extension prior to hitting the open market shrank considerably for the Astros.
“A wide-open AL West ultimately convinced the Astros to steer away from selling at the deadline, and even if they do view themselves as contenders in 2027, flipping Peña before losing him in free agency could still be on the table,” Bleacher Report wrote.
Pena is coming off a season that feels underrated, posting an impressive 124 OPS+, .802 OPS, and 22 home runs, tying for the most of his career.
As for how that fits into the Red Sox, there’s no debate that adding a right-handed bat with this kind of power would immediately impact what Boston is looking to do.
