Mike Evans just gave Richard Sherman a new reason to appreciate the art of NFL trash talk. The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver pulled off a hilariously disrespectful moment during his team’s dramatic 32-29 comeback victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5. Even the legendary former cornerback wished he had thought of it first.
During a heated fourth-quarter exchange, Seattle cornerback Trevon Diggs confronted Evans, apparently looking for a reaction. Evans instead calmly grabbed Diggs by the shoulder pads, turned him around and inspected the nameplate on his jersey as if he had no idea who was standing in front of him. The clip quickly went viral, prompting Sherman to share his admiration on X.
Mike Evans Checking to see the name on the back of the Jersey is an all-time Gif and trash talk moment that I wish I would have thought of.

“Mike Evans Checking to see the name on the back of the Jersey is an all-time Gif and trash talk moment that I wish I would have thought of,” Sherman wrote.
Coming from a player renowned for his own psychological warfare against opposing receivers, that is quite the compliment. Evans also backed up the trolling with production. He recorded seven catches for 113 yards while tying Tony Gonzalez for ninth on the NFL’s all-time receiving touchdowns list. His jersey-nameplate stunt may have been a brief moment. However, it delivered the kind of perfectly timed disrespect that can live long after the final whistle.
The 49ers have plenty of reasons to celebrate beyond Evans’ viral moment. San Francisco enters Week 6 at 5-0 after opening its campaign with a 27-7 victory over the Rams in Melbourne and now rallying past Seattle. Brock Purdy has guided an efficient offense featuring Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Evans. Meanwhile, Brandin Cooks delivered a clutch fourth-quarter touchdown against the Seahawks. The defense has also continued to generate timely stops. Now, San Francisco heads into its matchup with Washington carrying serious momentum.
