SEATTLE – A week after Dre Greenlaw managed to keep his sky-high emotions mostly under control, the combustible San Francisco 49ers linebacker was ejected Sunday after exploding on the Seahawks’ sideline.

Greenlaw, 29, earned his third career ejection after he headbutted helmet-less Seattle linebacker Ernest Jones in the face after he was assessed a personal-foul penalty for hitting quarterback Sam Darnold out of bounds at the end of a 5-yard scramble in the second quarter.

After drilling Darnold, Greenlaw was surrounded by Seahawks around their bench. After exchanging words with Jones, he headbutted Jones in the face with his facemask.

Greenlaw is known for struggling to keep his emotions under wraps. He was ejected from a game in 2023 for making contact with an Eagles staffer on the sideline. He was ejected in 2022 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. The 49ers are 48-20 when Greelaw plays.

Greenlaw has eight career unnecessary roughness penalties and four personal-foul facemask penalties in 77 games. Last week, in the 49ers’ 24-14 win over the Broncos, Greenlaw repeatedly yelled at Broncos head coach Sean Payton, telling the Chronicle he felt Payton disrespected him last year in his lone season in Denver.

After Greenlaw had 12 tackles, his most since Dec. 25, 2023, he had profane words for Payton around midfield during postgame handshakes.

“I told him to get the f- off the field,” Greenlaw said. “That’s it: ‘Get the f- off the field.’”
