Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce has offered a blunt assessment of his performance during the early stages of the NFL season.
As the reigning champions navigate a challenging schedule, the veteran pass-catcher admitted that his contributions on the field have not met the high standards he sets for himself.
Reflecting on his recent statistical output, Kelce stated that what he has been doing recently for the Kansas City Chiefs is “inexcusable” during his latest media availability.
The three-time Super Bowl champion has seen a noticeable dip in his production compared to previous record-breaking campaigns.
While the team remains undefeated, the offense has faced scrutiny regarding its consistency and reliance on the veteran playmaker to move the chains in critical situations.
Kelce emphasized that he is not focused on external criticism or outside narratives regarding his age or declining speed.
Instead, he noted that his primary objective remains helping the team secure victories while improving his own execution during high-leverage downs.
The coaching staff has maintained full confidence in the veteran, noting that defensive schemes have often focused on limiting his impact by utilizing double-coverage and bracket techniques.
Despite these tactical challenges, Kelce insists that he must find ways to get open and provide a reliable target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs are currently preparing for their upcoming divisional matchup, and team leaders are looking to refine their offensive rhythm.
Kelce remains a central figure in the locker room, and his willingness to accept accountability has been viewed by teammates as a sign of his continued commitment to the organization’s pursuit of a third consecutive title.
As the season progresses, analysts will be watching closely to see if the veteran can regain his form and return to the dominant level of play that defined his Hall of Fame career.
For now, the focus remains on the next game and ensuring that the offense functions at a championship caliber moving forward.
