Florida State baseball hosted Jacksonville for a pair of six-inning fall ball exhibitions at Dick Howser Stadium on Friday, Oct. 16.

The Seminoles won both games, with scores of 5-1 and 4-1.

Here are three takeaways from the pair of games.

Seminoles flash potential from the offense

John Stuetzer lit up the scoreboard in game one, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. He had an RBI single, and later mashed a two-run home run that carried over the center field wall.

He had the biggest day at the plate in game one. Other notable performances came from Cal Fisher, who knocked in a run with a triple that nearly sailed over the center field fence. Fisher finished the game 1-for-3. Brody Delamielleure went 1-for-2 with a walk and a single, and tallied an RBI.

Jackson Mackenzie played in both games, and he went 1-for-2 in the first game as a designated hitter and 1-for-1 in the second game while playing first base. He hit a mammoth home run to right center field.

The third and final home run of the night from a Seminole came off the bat of Kaden Frommelt, who blasted a pitch to the scoreboard in left field. His lone hit of the night. His home run came after FSU had a pair of runners score via wild pitches in the fourth inning of game two.

Frommelt added a 2-out double in the sixth inning to cap off a two hit night.

Pitching takes center stage

In game one, Cayden Suchy tossed a pair of innings, and he struck out three. His fastball had some life to it, and his breaking ball generated a few misses. His lone blemish came off a Jonah Shields first-inning home run that covered enough ground to reach the visitors’ bullpen in left field.

Out of the bullpen, Otto Espinoza and Sebastian Lippman combined for seven strikeouts. Espinoza rung up four batters, while Lippman topped out at 99 MPH and consistently sat in the high 90s with his fastball. It generated plenty of swing and miss, and helped him rack up two scoreless frames.

In game two, John Abraham got the starting nod, and he struck out three over two innings. He faced a little trouble in the second inning, allowing a pair of two-out hits, but he struck out the final batter he faced to end the inning.

Out of the bullpen in the second game, Kevin Mebil threw two hitless innings and struck out three. He was replaced by Rhett Vaughn in the fifth inning, and he struck out the side. He allowed a pair of baserunners in the sixth inning, and he was replaced by Mackenzie.

Mackenzie followed up his second-inning home run by closing out the game on the mound. He allowed a sac-fly, with the run charged to Vaughn, and retired the next two batters with a pop fly and a strikeout.

ABS challenges in action

While FSU has practiced with automated balls and strikes, better known as ABS, this was the first chance for the program to gain experience with it in a game setting.

Both the Seminoles and Dolphins contributed to multiple challenges in the games, with varied outcomes.

Jarrett previously mentioned that he’s encouraged his players to challenge whatever they feel is close as the program continues to learn the zone.

For the Seminoles, the challenges were initiated by the catcher when on defense.

FSU wraps up weekend of exhibitions by hosting UNF

The Seminoles will return to the diamond on Saturday, hosting the University of North Florida for a pair of six-inning scrimmages.

Game one will start at 1 p.m., and game two will begin about a half hour after the conclusion of the first game.
