The Golden State Warriors are already thin with Jimmy Butler’s injury and the sudden health issues Kristaps Porziņģis is dealing with. At first, the offseason seemed promising, as Golden State pursued several stars.
The Warriors are hoping to make one last title run with Steph Curry. Golden State tried to pursue both LeBron James and Anthony Davis this summer.
“The Golden State Warriors are planning a pursuit of LeBron James in free agency and Anthony Davis via trade this week, league sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania, opening up the flexibility for such a possibility after Draymond Green declined his $27.6 million player option Monday morning,” ESPN’s Anthony Slater wrote.

The plan ultimately fell through, but Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, could be exploring potential trades as the season progresses.
“But Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, is one of the game’s most powerful player representatives, and he has proven skilled at securing the deals his high-profile clients want, in the cities where they want to be. There’s little doubt that Paul already has gamed out other teams’ interest in Davis and will continue to do so as February’s trade deadline approaches,” The Athletic’s Josh Robbins wrote.
CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn believes the Warriors could trade for Davis before the deadline.
“The Wizards reportedly plan to wait until the middle of the season to reopen extension negotiations, but if Davis plays well and stays healthy, there will be a market to flip him by February. Golden State is the obvious one, especially with Kristaps Porziņģis already dealing with a medical issue,” Quinn wrote.
The Warriors would likely have to give up a significant package to acquire Davis, but the move could be worth considering given their potential flexibility next offseason. It would also give Curry another star who could help him remain dominant.
Defensively, the pairing could be formidable, as Draymond Green and Davis would make life difficult for opposing offenses. The trade may seem unlikely right now, but Golden State could get aggressive as Curry’s championship window continues to narrow.
