Palmeiras took the advantage over Fluminense in the battle for a place in the Libertadores final.

Playing at the Maracanã, Verdão beat Tricolor 2–1 in the first leg of the semifinal on Wednesday (14).

Flaco López scored in the first half and Marlon Freitas in the second for Palmeiras.

In second-half stoppage time, Wesley Natã found the net for Flu.

The return leg takes place next Wednesday (21) at Nubank Parque.

The winner of this tie will face Flamengo or Estudiantes in the Libertadores final.

Watch the goals from the match below:

Fluminense dominated most of the first half and barely let Palmeiras out of their own half.

But Tricolor struggled to test Carlos Miguel, managing just one shot on target before the break.

Palmeiras punished their opponents’ lack of cutting edge and opened the scoring with their first shot of the game.

After a neat move involving Andreas Pereira down the left, Piquerez sent in a low cross and Flaco López slid in to finish from the middle of the penalty area.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first.

Fluminense dominated possession but rarely tested Carlos Miguel.

Palmeiras ventured forward only occasionally, yet still posed the greater threat.

And just as in the first half, the hosts were punished late on.

Marlon Freitas latched onto a layoff from Felipe Anderson and finished in style to score the game’s second goal.

In second-half stoppage time, Wesley Natã breathed new life into Fluminense’s hopes in the tie.

The youngster met Guga’s cross and headed into the net.
