Nick Woltemade pushed to leave Newcastle United for Juventus after learning about his role under the English club’s new manager, Matthias Jaissle has revealed.

Juventus made a late and surprising move for the German forward in the last transfer window after failing to convince Manchester United to allow them to sign Joshua Zirkzee. The Bianconeri believed they had secured a top player, but Woltemade has yet to fully convince their supporters that he was the right signing, although new arrivals often need time to settle.

Juventus will continue to trust him as he adapts to his new surroundings. Meanwhile, Newcastle United have also experienced difficulties, particularly in attack, raising questions about the decision to allow the forward to leave.

Jaissle explains Woltemade’s situation

Newcastle did not have many attacking options available, making Woltemade’s departure appear questionable given their difficulties in front of goal. However, Jaissle has defended the decision, explaining that the player’s position within the team influenced the situation.

According to Football Italia, Jaissle explained:

“We explained his position in the team to him, which was linked to our style of high pressing, and in that moment, there were one or two players in front of him.”

His comments suggest that Woltemade faced competition for a place in the team and that Newcastle’s tactical approach played a significant role in determining his position. Despite the decision to let him leave on loan, the manager made it clear that he still rates the German highly.

Newcastle maintain confidence in the German

Jaissle’s explanation offers insight into why Woltemade may have sought a move away from Newcastle. A player who believes his opportunities will be limited could view a transfer as a chance to secure more regular football and continue developing.

For Juventus, the challenge will be to help Woltemade settle and demonstrate the qualities that persuaded them to pursue his signature. Although his performances have yet to win over every supporter, the club can still give him time to adapt and establish himself.

Jaissle also emphasised that Woltemade remains connected to Newcastle despite his temporary departure, adding:

“I have a very high opinion of him and he remains one of our players because he is only on loan.”
