Myles Turner has found himself at the end of major chapters more than once in recent years. He parted ways with the Indiana Pacers last season after spending a decade with the franchise, calling that period of his career finished before signing a four year, $108 million deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Milwaukee’s plans then took a sharp turn when Giannis Antetokounmpo pushed for an exit and secured his preferred move to the Miami Heat, leaving the Bucks facing a rebuild.
The 30-year-old has experienced a dramatic shift in his career trajectory, moving from a Pacers team that came within one win of an NBA title to a Bucks squad hoping to contend for a playoff spot. Now, Milwaukee is rebuilding, and even a place in the Play-In tournament would represent progress for the young roster. Turner’s role is also uncertain heading into the season, as rising center Kel’el Ware could challenge him for minutes and potentially push him down the rotation.

The Bucks veteran, however, is ready to use his experience to guide Milwaukee’s young roster and help the Bucks navigate this new phase of their development.
“I got the most years on this team, just using my voice, using my experience to kinda lead this charge, more than anything,” Turner remarked via Cameron Ezeir of CBS 58.

“The leadership role is something that I’ve been tasked with ever since the summer time. Just coming in every single day, just being a consummate professional. Being the guy I am, first one to show up and last one off the floor.”

Beyond his responsibilities as a veteran presence in Milwaukee’s locker room, the Bucks center has a chance to silence critics with a stronger performance this season. Some fans questioned whether his output justified the team’s commitment, especially after Milwaukee waived and stretched Damian Lillard’s contract to make room for his arrival.
Turner averaged only 11.9 points per game, his lowest mark since his debut season, while appearing to struggle with his new surroundings in Milwaukee. The upcoming campaign gives him an opportunity to regain his rhythm, rebuild confidence and deliver a stronger showing.
