A conference player of the week was named for the second straight week after having a big game against the Arizona Cardinals. After New York Giants cornerback Deonte Banks was NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 4 after he broke up four passes and had the game-clinching interception in the 36-24 win, Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was named Week 5 NFC Offensive Player of the Week after playing the Cardinals.
The league announced conference players of the week on Wednesday.
Gibbs rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns against the Cardinals, and he added five receptions for 56 yards, totaling 207 yards from scrimmage.
His two touchdowns give him 58 career scores, giving him the NFL record for the most touchdowns scored before age 25. He passed Barry Sanders’ 57 touchdowns.
