With the current struggles of Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani, the unthinkable conversation has been brought up about whether the team should bench the 32-year-old. As the Dodgers are in the midst of the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers, down 0-2 in the series, the options need to be weighed as Katie Nolan discusses the matter.

Speaking on “Mad Dog Sports Radio,” Nolan would talk about the slump that Ohtani finds himself in as he deals with a myriad of injuries this season; especially recently, the results haven’t been pretty.

Hitting a .200 batting average in September and a .150 average in the postseason thus far, the thought of benching Ohtani has been a popular discussion, with Nolan holding out the possibility that he’s one swing away from coming back to the player people know.

“And so, the conversation is kind of like, ‘Yeah, I think if you were doing this blindly, you’d go bench that guy. He’s not doing anything.’ But then you kind of look at the balance sheet,” Nolan said. “And you go, ‘That’s a lot of money to bench a guy in the postseason.’”

“You know that meme online of the guy, he’s like digging through a tunnel,” Nolan continued. “We can see that he’s about to strike diamonds on the other side, but he’s been digging for so long, and he’s got nothing, so he gives up, and he goes home, and you’re like, ‘You were right there, one more at-bat, and he was about to hit a grand slam.’ You don’t know that, so it’s like it’s a tough call.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen if Los Angeles will actually bench Ohtani as the Dodgers prepare for Game 3 of the NLCS on Wednesday.
