The Houston Astros may need more stability in the outfield.
Especially in center field.
“Cam Smith started 139 games in right field for the Astros last season, but left field and center field were as ‘by-committee’ as any team in baseball while they searched for answers,” Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter wrote.

The AL West club acquired Daulton Varsho from the Toronto Blue Jays at the trade deadline,
But the former Gold Glove Award winner hit .172 with a .535 OPS in 41 games before undergoing season-ending wrist surgery.
Reuter tabbed the Astros as the top landing spot for a center fielder who spent the past three seasons with the New York Yankees.
“Expect them to cast a wide net in their search for outfield help, and their center field need specifically helps put [Trent] Grisham high on their list of potential targets,” Reuter added.
After hitting a career-high 34 home runs in 2025, Grisham wasn’t as impressive this past season.

He managed a .211/.308/.395 slash line with 18 homers and a 0.6 bWAR. Grisham’s defense has taken multiple steps in the wrong direction.
Still, the Astros need an everyday center field option, a role Grisham can fulfill.
It may be in Houston’s best interest to sign Grisham for no longer than one or two years and see if he can replicate some of the magic that helped him have a 3.5 WAR season a year ago.
