The United States Women’s National Team returns to action against Spain on Tuesday to close out its two-game series against the defending FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, the Americans’ final game before the Concacaf W Championship in November.
Spain won the opener 2-0 on Saturday, scoring twice in the first 14 minutes at Audi Field in Washington, with goals from Patri and Eva Navarro. The Americans outshot Spain 13-6 but couldn’t convert their chances, as Spain’s goalkeeper Adriana Nanclares denied Lily Yohannes on a penalty kick in the 70th minute.
Saturday’s game was just the fifth meeting between the two powerhouses and marked Spain’s second consecutive win in the series. The USWNT won the first three meetings.
