India and West Indies meet in the third T20I on Sunday, October 11, at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, with the five-match series level at 1-1. The result in Ranchi on Friday turned a one-sided start into an open contest, and it did so in extraordinary fashion.
West Indies chased down 250 with nine balls to spare, finishing on 252 for 4 in 18.3 overs. Captain Shai Hope scored 102 off 45 balls, and Sherfane Rutherford added 84 off 37. India had made 249 for 5 after batting first, and Shreyas Iyer blamed dew for the defeat.

The two sides put up 501 runs between them in Ranchi, and West Indies finished eight runs short of the highest T20I total ever made at the Holkar Stadium. Indore has a reputation for big scores.
The boundaries are short, at about 56 metres square and about 68 metres straight, and bowlers have rarely had an easy time.

What is the highest T20I team score at Holkar Stadium, Indore?
India’s 260 for 5 against Sri Lanka on December 22, 2017 is the highest T20I total at the ground, and it came at a run rate of 13.00. Sri Lanka replied with 172 in 17.2 overs, and India won by 88 runs.
The innings was built almost entirely by two men. Rohit Sharma made 118 and KL Rahul added 89, so the pair scored 207 of the 260 runs between them. No other batter in that innings passed 28.
Nobody has come close to the mark since. South Africa made 227 for 3 against India in October 2022, which is 33 runs short. Both India’s 249 for 5 and West Indies’ 252 for 4 in Ranchi also fell short of 260.
What is the highest T20I individual score at Holkar Stadium, Indore?
The same match produced the individual record. Rohit Sharma smashed 118 off 43 balls against Sri Lanka, with 12 fours and 10 sixes. That means 108 of his 118 runs came in boundaries, and he scored at a strike rate of 274.41.
Rilee Rossouw is the only other player to reach three figures at the ground. He made 100 not out off 48 balls for South Africa against India in October 2022, with seven fours and eight sixes. His hundred helped South Africa win by 49 runs, after India were bowled out for 178.

Four of the five highest totals at the ground come from just two matches.
The 2017 game between India and Sri Lanka produced 260 and 172, and the 2022 game between India and South Africa produced 227 and 178. Only India’s 173 for 4 against Afghanistan in January 2024 comes from a third match.
Only two of these totals won their matches, and both were made batting first. India’s 173 for 4 was the highest score made while chasing, and it took just 15.4 overs.

The list is dominated by the same two matches. Three of the five innings came in the 2017 game, with Sharma, Rahul and Sri Lanka’s Kusal Perera all among the leading scorers. Perera made 77 off 37 balls in the defeat.
The other two came in October 2022. Rossouw’s century was backed by Quinton de Kock, who made 68 off 43 balls as the pair set up South Africa’s 227.
