Nick Sirianni took responsibility for the Eagles’ final kickoff decision Sunday after a long return set up Jacksonville’s winning field goal in Philadelphia’s 19-17 loss in London.
“I lost us the game,” Sirianni said.
Jake Elliott had made a 48-yard field goal to give Philadelphia a 17-16 lead with eight seconds remaining. On the ensuing kickoff, Ameer Abdullah returned the ball 53 yards to the Eagles‘ 39-yard line with one second left, setting up Cam Little’s winning 57-yard field goal.
Elliott said afterward that he was instructed to kick the ball into the field of play to be returned and did what he was told, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane. His explanation focused on the coaching decision that gave Jacksonville a return opportunity while Philadelphia protected a one-point lead.
“I cost us that game. That one’s on me,” Sirianni said, according to Eliot Shorr-Parks. “There’s no way around it … I just didn’t do my job in that situation.”
The sequence erased Elliott’s go-ahead kick and left Philadelphia with its third consecutive loss after opening the season with two victories. The Eagles were eight seconds from ending their skid, only to surrender the field position Jacksonville needed without its offense taking another snap.
Nick Sirianni says it crystal clear:
He made the wrong decision on the kickoff and he owns it

Sirianni’s acknowledgment was direct. Philadelphia now must address the decision and the coverage breakdown that turned a late lead into another defeat.
