Mike Evans was jawing with a Seattle Seahawks defender Sunday, apparently unaware of who was on the other end of the beef.
If led to a moment during San Francisco’s win that Trevon Diggs can reasonably take as disrespectful.
At the conclusion of a play, Diggs, a Seahawks cornerback, walked behind Evans, apparently chirping in the 49ers receiver’s ear. Evans turned around, grabbed Diggs by the shoulders and looked at the back of his jersey as if to confirm the name on it.
The message from Evans in this moment: I don’t even know who you are.

Diggs, understandably, did not take kindly to this. He gave Evans a quick shove in his facemask in a moment that was largely ignored by officials.
Evans got the last laugh as well as his 49ers rallied for a 32-29 win to improve to 5-0 and seize control of the NFC West over the 3-2 Seahawks. Evans tallied 113 receiving yards and a touchdown in the process.
After the game, Evans had a laugh about the moment when asked by reporters.

“I was blocking him to the whistle and then he said something like ‘I’m doing extra’ or something like that. And I didn’t know that was him at first because I played against him a few times and we always been cool. He was a good player.
“And I honestly didn’t know it was him. Because in the helmet, it’s hard to tell sometimes. And we were talking trash, and I think I like pushed him and then I was like, ‘Who are you?’
“I looked to make sure, “Oh, it’s f***ing Diggs.” And then he, like, mushed me. It should have been a penalty. It is what it is.”
That’s a reasonably plausible explanation from Evans. Who doesn’t have trouble identifying a football player without his name or jersey number when he’s wearing a helmet?
Whether it’s true or not? Well, that probably doesn’t matter much to Diggs, who’s surely in no mood to hear it.
