The Jacksonville Jaguars couldn’t get out of their own way with penalties against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jacksonville put on a clinic for the worst way to approach a fourth-quarter red zone appearance. The Jaguars had first-and-goal from the 1-yard line. The offense then got whistled for a false start that backed them up to the six.
After a two-yard run from Bhayshul Tuten, Jacksonville was once again called for a false start, moving the Jaguars back to the nine-yard line. Trevor Lawrence then threw an incompletion to Brian Thomas Jr., who couldn’t get a second foot down on a potential TD grab.
The Jaguars were then whistled for their third false start since getting to the 1-yard line. This moved them back to the 14. After a nine-yard completion from Lawrence to Parker Washington, head coach Liam Coen rolled the dice and went for it on fourth down while trailing by four.
Lawrence had an incomplete pass that sailed out of the end zone as Jacksonville turned the ball over on downs.
At the time, the third false start penalty was Jacksonville’s 13th penalty of the game, costing the Jaguars 100 yards.
Jacksonville’s defense stopped the Eagles on their next drive. Lawrence then led a go-ahead drive, hitting Washington, who made a diving grab for the score. It looked like the Jaguars’ defense bailed out the offense after a late turnover.

Cam Little missed the extra point, though, giving Jacksonville a two-point lead. Eagles kicker Jake Elliott made a field goal with 12 seconds left, giving Philly a late lead. Little then bailed out his team, nailing a 57-yard field goal as time expired to seal the 19-17 win.
The #Eagles opt against the touchback, as that had been the mistake the #Cowboys made internationally. A big return and the #Jaguars pull off a ̶L̶i̶t̶t̶l̶e̶ BIG win at the buzzer. Wow. pic.twitter.com/Dc0IuKDoTl

This was the second red-zone appearance that didn’t end in points for Jacksonville. Ahead of halftime, Lawrence and the Jaguars were at the 1-yard line with a fresh set of downs.
Chris Rodriguez fumbled, but after a review, the Jaguars appeared to be bailed out by the call.

Lawrence had back-to-back incompletions, and the drive ended when Tuten lost six yards on a run and fumbled, but recovered it as time expired in the half, as the Jaguars turned it over on downs.
