There will be no mystery at quarterback on Sunday at Lambeau Field.
Although Caleb Williams returned to practice in a limited capacity on Friday and is officially questionable to play in Week 5, the Chicago Bears will, in fact, start backup quarterback Tyson Bagent against the Green Bay Packers, per Tom Pelissero of The Ringer.
Williams made a surprise return to practice to end the week, and being labeled as questionable to play on the final injury report at least kept the door open to Williams defying the odds and playing against the Packers. But as coach Ben Johnson said to start the week, it’ll be Bagent at quarterback in Green Bay as Williams continues rehabbing from a Week 2 hamstring injury.
Bagent, 26, will be making his fifth (official) career start. Last week, Bagent wasn’t under center for the first snap but played the rest of the way, completing 25 of 34 passes for 268 yards and an interception during the Bears’ 23-12 win over the New York Jets.
Bagent went undrafted out of Shepherd University, a Division II school in West Virginia.
Assuming Williams in inactive as the third quarterback, Case Keenum will be the backup behind Bagent on Sunday.
The Packers will face a backup quarterback for the second straight week, having beat Jalon Daniels and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week on the road.
