Week 7 of the 2026 Central Texas high school football season is going to answer some questions we’ve had concerning Austin-area teams. Not just who’ll emerge with the inside track to district titles in a few key area Class 6A and 5A districts, but three teams specifically heading into critical Friday night matchups:
• What can we make of the Cedar Ridge Raiders? They’re 6-0 with a 2-0 mark in 25-6A heading into tonight’s road game at Lake Travis, which is showing off its remodeled home stadium. The Raiders’ two district wins have been against Westwood and McNeil, who are a combined 1-12. But QB Dylan Snoga and WRs Carter Copeland and Zaccai Williams have been cooking, with a pair of 70-point games in their last four. And at the same time, what about the Cavaliers (2-1-1), who have a win, a loss and a tie in their last three games yet hold the No. 1 spot in the American-Statesman’s power rankings.

• Who’s the real favorite in District 24-6A? We all assumed it would be Vandegrift because, well, Vandegrift. But the Vipers (4-2, 2-0) have been up and down but are off to a 2-0 start in district while undefeated Cedar Park (6-0, 2-0) and red-hot Hutto (5-1, 2-0) face off tonight.
It’s a busy weekend between the ACL Festival and tomorrow’s Texas-Oklahoma game, it’s also a busy weekend for preps, too. We’re staffing four games tonight: Colby Gordon is covering and live blogging out of Hutto vs. Cedar Park, Shaun Chornobroff is covering and live blogging out of Weiss and A&M Consolidated, Caleb Yum is at the Anderson at Smithson Valley game in District 13-5A DI and Jay Plotkin is covering the Lake Travis vs. Cedar Ridge game.
