Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys have to be thrilled after word came out All-Pro offensive tackle Tyler Smith is returning. Dallas’ offense continue to dominate games through the first four weeks of the NFL season, but the offensive line is about to get even better.
The Cowboys have the chance to build off their dramatic 34-30 win over the Houston Texans in Week 4. Meanwhile, Prescott receives more pass protection as he makes an early-season MVP case throwing the ball to CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reveals that Smith is returning from IR and will play Thursday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Smith dealt with a thumb injury that required surgery prior to the start of the 2026 season.
The 25-year-old was selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Smith is a three-time Pro Bowler and earned second-team All-Pro honors during the 2023 campaign.

Prescott and Co. have certainly done their part on offense through four weeks. Dallas is averaging 30.5 points per game, which is second in the league behind the Buffalo Bills.
At the very least, Smith adds more protection on Prescott’s blindside. The young OL also helps the team’s rushing attack with Javonte Williams leading the way.
Smith has formed a tremendous partnership on the left side of Dallas’ line with left tackle Tyler Guyton. Pro Football Focus currently has the Cowboys’ O-line ranked 13th, but Smith’s return undoubtedly boosts that rating.
The Cowboys are clearly making a push for playoff relevancy in 2026 after trying to bolster their defense as well.
