Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the last Bayern Munich player to win the Ballon d’Or, hopes Harry Kane will follow in his footsteps.

“I was the last Bayern player to win the award, so I would like to see another Bayern player win it now,” Rummenigge told Ran Sport.

“That would have a very special significance for us as a club as well. The decisive criterion is individual performance.

“Harry Kane has the edge there – his goals and his trophies speak for themselves,” the 71-year-old said of the Englishman.

Regarding the Kane’s future, Rummenigge is confident that both he an Michael Olise will remain with the Bavarian giants for a long time.

“Both of them intend to stay at Bayern for a long time. I hope, and I’m also very confident, that Harry will extend his contract soon.

“And [I hope] that Michael [Olise] will be next. I would like to see him stay at Bayern for many more years.

“We at FC Bayern can consider ourselves very fortunate to have two players in Harry Kane and Michael Olise who are among the leading contenders for the Ballon d’Or.

“They are world-class players, and world class players don’t grow on trees – they have been such important figures for us for some time now,” he concluded.
