Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs head into their bye week as the last undefeated team in the AFC. The quarterback just led Kansas City to a 30-27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 4, but the latest good news arrived off the field. A court ruling involving a close family member now offers the star some welcome peace of mind.
Patrick Mahomes Sr. cleared to attend Chiefs games
A Texas judge has approved limited travel for Patrick Mahomes Sr., who remains on felony probation. According to court documents obtained by TMZ Sports and reported by The Jasmine Brand, the 56-year-old former MLB pitcher asked to attend Chiefs games in Kansas City, Las Vegas and Cincinnati.

He can attend games at Arrowhead Stadium, but the requests for the October game in Las Vegas and the December game in Cincinnati were denied. He must also submit urine tests, requested by his probation officer, before and after each trip.
The filing shows progress as well. Mahomes Sr. has completed 160 hours of community service and an outpatient alcohol treatment program. His probation officer reported no violations on his SCRAM alcohol monitor.
The case stems from his February 2024 arrest in Tyler, Texas, which landed during Super Bowl LVIII week. In March 2026, his probation was extended by two years after a monitoring alert, but screening tests showed no signs of alcohol use.
In the docuseries The Kingdom, Mahomes Sr. said, “I made a vow that he would never have to deal with anything because of drinking, because of me.”
That promise now meets a son who is flying high on the field.
Mahomes keeps Chiefs unbeaten after knee recovery
Mahomes has guided Kansas City to a 4-0 start after recovering from serious ACL and LCL injuries. During Week 4 in Las Vegas, he threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns, both to Tyquan Thornton, and improved to 7-0 at Allegiant Stadium. Kenneth Walker III ran for 177 yards and two scores.
The Raiders pushed back late, and the pressure was heavy. Patrick Mahomes said, “I think you have to stay with it,” when describing the back-and-forth game.

Wide receiver Rashee Rice left with a hamstring injury in the first quarter, so the bye week arrives at a useful time. Kansas City went 6-11 last season and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014, which makes this fast start even more notable.
The Chiefs now rest before hosting the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium on Oct. 18. The Chargers are winless through four games, and Mahomes Sr. is now cleared for home games like this one.
