Jadarian Price’s rookie season is not going as he — or the Seahawks — planned.
The first-round draft choice from Notre Dame lost fumbles in two consecutive games. Those were two more fumbles than Super Bowl most valuable player Kenneth Walker, the man Price replaced as Seattle’s lead back, had in four seasons for the team.
Price injured his shoulder near his chest in his second NFL game, last month at Arizona. He aggravated that injury in practice Wednesday. Friday, the Seahawks declared him out for the game Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Saturday, Price became out for more than just one game. The Seahawks put him on injured reserve. He will miss at least the next four games.
The first game Price could play is Nov. 2 against Chicago, in NFL week eight.
Emanuel Wilson and George Holani are next in line to replace Price in a Seahawks rushing game that gained just 44 yards on 18 carries last week in Seattle’s loss at Washington.
The Seahawks signed running back Velus Jones Jr. from the practice squad to the 53-man active roster, to take Price’s place on it.
“Velus is a guy that we were excited to bring on last year. When he had his opportunities, he did a great job,” coach Mike Macdonald said.
“He’s played great at gunner for us (with the punt unit, on special teams. On offense, he’s had a great offseason.
“Just like all these guys if you get an opportunity, we’re excited to see what he can do. He’s worked hard to give himself a chance if that opportunity arises.”
Trevon Diggs debut?
The Seahawks elevated two players from the practice squad Saturday to be available for the game against the Chargers Saturday: cornerback Trevon Diggs and safety Maxen Hook.
Diggs, an All-Pro cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys in 2021, signed with Seattle in late August. He’s been getting in football shape, and learning Macdonald’s defense since then.
“He’s done a great job since he’s got here,” Macdonald said. “He’s practicing well. If the situation worked out…I think he’d be ready to play.”
