ATHENS, GA โ Vanderbilt football was without 5-star Jared Curtis against Georgia, the team Curtis was originally committed to before flipping to the Commodores.
With Blaze Berlowitz getting the start, Vanderbilt lost, 38-14, to the second-ranked Bulldogs on Oct. 3 at Sanford Stadium.
The game was closer than the score indicated for most of it, though. The Commodores (3-2, 0-2 SEC) kept the game within one score for 2.5 quarters before Georgia (5-0, 3-0) pulled away.
Berlowitz performed well, especially given the circumstances and the fact that he was playing wide receiver last week against Auburn. It was unequivocally his best performance at Vanderbilt, better than his starts against Austin Peay and Delaware early in the season.
Blaze Berlowitz stats vs Georgia
Berlowitz went 12-for-23 for 190 yards and a touchdown and he rushed seven times for 44 yards, not including sacks.
He was sacked one time for seven yards. He committed one interception, which was his only turnover.
Blaze Berlowitz performance vs Georgia
Berlowitz performed well overall. He completed several explosive passes, with an especially strong connection downfield with Junior Sherrill. He completed a 60-yard pass to Sherrill and a 27-yard pass to Ja’Cory Thomas.
Berlowitz was at his best when moving on the run outside the pocket, which allowed him to find open receivers for chunk gains.
Berlowitz didn’t make any really bad decisions. His interception was a 50/50 downfield throw that wasn’t a bad throw, but the defensive back made a good play in one-on-one coverage.
