Its the day before the Red Wings season opener at home, and the excitement throughout the fanbase feels tepid at best. Detroit’s offseason from hell has started to bleed into the season with Dylan Larkin un-traded, Simon Edvinsson and Alex DeBrincat unsigned, and no general manager or president of hockey operations in place.

However, this is Detroit, and facing a grey day and a stormy outlook just means its another Thursday in the fall, and there’s work to do.

“It’s pretty easy. The second the the puck drops, you’re in the moment. You and your teammates [are] playing the best game out there that you enjoy the most.” Moritz Seider said.

There’s no point in hemming and hawing about the what’s happened and what’s yet to happen. At this point, the past is in the past. It can be pointed to, but Detroit and the Red Wings must move forward. The Red Wings brass and the team have made that much clear.

“It’s business. And the players that are here in the locker room, the coaching staff that’s here, we have jobs to do.” Head coach Todd McLellan said.

The offseason is over, and work must go on. The Red Wings will open the season at home against a New York Rangers team on the second half of a back-to-back series, facing off with the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight. The Red Wings will want to seize the opportunity to start the opportunity on the right foot with a win on home ice. There’s going to be a lot of hockey at Little Caesars Arena in the next month and every win and every point matters.

Red Wings top prospect Max Plante has returned for another year of hockey in the NCAA after winning the Hobey Baker award last year as the NCAA’s best player. The young forward could be in contention for the award again this year, playing on a line with both of his brothers at University of Minnesota-Duluth.

His head coach didn’t hold back in his praise of the middle Plante brother as the team looks to contend for a NCAA Championship.

Scott Sandelin was asked what he wants Max Plante’s mentality to be coming off of his Hobey Baker and accolade filled season. Thoughtful answer ⬇️#LGRWpic.twitter.com/SpT0Y4AhbT
