Pittsburgh scored multiple goals in each period, doubled Philadelphia’s shots on goal and got a strong performance out of goaltender Arturs Silovs. As a bonus, the Penguins saw the Flyers get booed by their own fans.

Penguins Make NHL History in Season Opener

By winning 7-0 in Philadelphia, the Penguins authored the largest road shutout in a season opener in NHL history, according to OptaSTATS.

The gap was so wide that Flyers fans sent their team off with boos at the end of the night:

While the Penguins’ seven goals were the headliner of the night, Silovs recorded a shutout for the second consecutive season opener with a 19-for-19 performance in net.

The quick trip back to Pittsburgh was unquestionably an enjoyable one for the Penguins, and they will try to follow up a historic showing at home against the Canadiens and Jets before heading on the road to face Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals.
