For the second season in a row, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed is going to miss a lot of time due to an injury.
And this time around, he will be out for the remainder of the season after being placed on the injured reserve with a neck injury.
The former Michigan State Spartans star wideout is expected to go under the knife to address the injury.
Speaking to reporters about Reed’s ordeal, Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur shared his surprise upon realizing the severity of the wideout’s injury.
“Any time you go through a situation like that, it’s a pretty scary deal,” LaFleur said, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
“I didn’t even realize the magnitude at the time but certainly when I was out there [on the field] with him and seeing what was going on, it shocks you. It jolts you a little bit because you never want to see anybody in that position let alone one of your own guys.”
2026 is Another Ugly Season For Packers Wide Receiver Reed Due to Injury

The 26-year-old Reed suffered the injury early in the Packers’ Week 2 game against the New York Jets on the road. He left the field on a backboard and didn’t return to Green Bay with the team.
For now, the focus for Reed is on getting healthy again. Last season, he went down with a collarbone injury in a Week 2 game and missed time; though, he was able to return to action, playing in the team’s final four games, and was also on the field in the postseason.
Over his last two seasons, including the 2026 campaign, Reed has amassed only 231 receiving yards and a touchdown on 23 receptions and 30 targets in nine games (five starts).
It remains to be seen whether Green Bay will add someone from the practice squad to improve the depth of their wide receiver room or perhaps sign someone from free agency.
