The long international break is dragging on, and it means an exceptional number of transfer rumours considering we’ve only just hit October.
For Chelsea, the priority is clear after the first phase of the season: defence. Of course they want to fix it on the training pitch, but there are plenty of rumours about new defenders coming in too.
A name that’s come up plenty of times over the years is back on the menu, according to Graeme Bailey of TeamTalk.
Araujo on Chelsea’s radar after another strong season
MADRID, SPAIN – FEBRUARY 25: Tomas Araujo of Benfica warms up prior to the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 League Knockout Play-off Second Leg match between Real Madrid C.F. and SL Benfica at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on February 25, 2026 in Madrid, Spain. (Photo by Angel Martinez/Getty Images)
Bailey writes that Tomas Araujo is on Chelsea and Manchester United’s shortlist as both clubs look to try and improve at the back. Still just 24, the centre back has bags of experience already. He also has a release clause of €80m. That’s a lot of money, but it does at least set an upper limit for what Benfica can demand.
Having sold Araujo’s partner Antonio Silva to Bournemouth this summer, the Eagles are keen to hold on to Araujo, at least for now.
